T-Shirt Contest!!!

Heyyy everyone! Just wanting to speak a little bit about the T-shirt and bag contest we have going on here at the office. Anyone who comes in wearing one of our t-shirts, or uses our paper bag, receives a point towards winning a prize! (And if you come in with both, you get 2 points!) Whoever gets 20 points, or the highest reached by the end of the month, wins. We've given out items such as iPods and iFlips. =) Our shirt has a specially drawn picture of our block, which was voted the 10th most beautiful block by Time Out Magazine. Talented architect Sarelle T. Weisberg is not only the artist of the drawing but the owner of FAIA (American Institute of Architects), an architecture and planning industry. She attended Columbia University, Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and is one of few female architects of her time. Not only is she inspiring to architects of all ages, she is a great influence for other women out of her field and we are very proud to wear her talent on our shirts. =)

Best Always xoxo,
Brady

Testimonial from Katie

"Well, I was in like 4th grade when I started there, so I don't really remember that much but, I remember she was really nice and friendly. As a 4th grader i was pretty nervous about getting braces but she made me feel comfortable. And I only had them for a year and a half. Iris was pretty helpful, basically. My mom really liked her too." -Katie Barach

The Gymnast-Ortho Patient

Hi everyone, today we have a special blog about a former patient here at Vardy Orthodontists named Rachel De La Torre. Rachel is a sophomore at Professional Children School as well as a talented gymnast. She got into gymnastics at her cousin's birthday party when she was 3 1/2 years old. The coach said that if she could not keep up she would have to sit out but, Rachel proved to be naturally talented at the sport and kept up just fine. After the party was over, the coach approached Rachel's mother, inquiring that Rachel took up gymnastics. And so it was done. To this day, Rachel loves "learning new skills, the thrill, traveling and competing, [her] friends, meeting new people, and actually doing something. If i didn't have gymnastics I probably just be sitting around not doing much. [laughs]" She's placed 3rd all around level 9 championships and 3rd all around beam level 9 Easter Championships. "I want to go to college on a gymnastics scholarship but I'm not sure where yet", in the mean time, her next step is level 10 nationals.
To show how proud we are of her, we have a picture of Rachel, when she was 12 years old, in the office performing on bars. "It's cool for people to see me", she says. She heard about Dr. Vardy "through friends, everyone was going to her, and people said that she was good with kids." Although she went through two years of braces and being called "Brace Face #2" in class, she says " It was definitely worth it. I'm glad i came here too. Dr. Vardy's the best. She's fun and makes the experience good. The staff is awesome too! I loved the video aspect [patients may watch their favorite movies while getting worked on in the chair] and changing the colors of my bands was fun too."
Along with gymnastics, Rachel loves to sing. We have high hopes for her and wish her all the best in her future, whichever path she may choose.

Best Always xoxo,
Brady

Hey Everyone!

Hi, my name is Brady Landon-Forderhase, a former patient, and part-time employee of Dr. Iris Vardy. I'm here to talk to you a little bit about my personal experience here at the office. At first, I wasn't quite sure how I felt about having to get braces, but after my consultation with Dr. Vardy, I felt like it wasn't actually indeed the end of the world after all. I still remember how comfortable the staff made me feel while I went through the process of getting my braces on. I now get complements (always a perk), and have confidence when I smile. I never thought about how it would be to actually gain a greater image of myself and my features just by the adjustment of my teeth! Now, the office...I will admit, I actually loved coming here, and i still do. I know, I know, that sounds a little odd to actually love coming to a doctors office, but it has such a warm environment, why not? It instantly calms you and makes it enjoyable to come back again! The staff members have the full package too! They're intelligent, dedicated, diverse, bright, charismatic, caring, compassionate...I could go on and on, but I'll spare you ;). From the cozy interior to the hum of patient-orthodontist conversations, Dr. Vardy and Staff go out of their way to give the practice a 'family feel'; you become a part of the Vardy Orthodontics Family :).

We want to hear from you! If you're a current, former, prospective patient, or just par-oozing the web, tell us what you have to say...speak your mind! We'd love to hear it. Don't forget to spread the word, tell your friends about us too and become a fan of us on facebook (psst, there's a link on the right-hand side). :)

Best Always xoxo,
Brady

Dr. Vardy shares a recent study about Xylitol

At Vardy Orthodontics we have known for some time that certain types of chewing gum, cough drops, toothpaste, mouthwash and candy have been found to help prevent tooth decay. Believe it or not, the sugar substitute “Xylitol” was found to be the culprit, helping to prevent bacteria growth that often contributes to cavities. This research was focused on permanent teeth.

But what about baby teeth? Dr. Vardy wants to share with you a study that found Xylitol in an oral syrup was found to have a significant effect on cavity prevention in children between 9-15 months of age.

Before using Xylitol products you should ALWAYS consult your dentist first!

Hope this helps! Give us a call if you have any questions!
